Creating a Web
Page Using Yahoo PageBuilder
Open
your web browser
In
the location bar, type in www.geocities.com
If
you already have a Yahoo ID & password, enter them on the left
If
you don’t, click Sign up for a Free Website on the left
Click Sign Up Now
Fill in the necessary fields to set up a Yahoo account
Write down your Yahoo ID and password
Write down your URL (www.geocites.com/yourYahooID)
Click Build your Website Now
Click
Yahoo! PageBuilder
Click
Launch PageBuilder
It
will automatically open a couple of windows (DO NOT CLOSE THEM!)
It
will probably take a few minutes to load
When
PageBuilder comes up you should see a blank page
This
will be your index page (home page)
To
choose a background for your page:
Click Add-Ons
Click Background
Click Set Background Color to choose a
color
Double click Backgrounds to select a
pre-made background
Click OK once you have found one you
would like to use
To
add text:
Click the Text Button in the task bar
Double click in the box
Type your text
To
edit text:
Highlight the text
Change font style next to where it
says “browser default”
Change font size next to where it says
“12”
Choose to left, center, or right
justify
Change the style to Bold, Italics, or
Underline
Change the color of the text by clicking on the T/paint
palette
Change the color of the text box by
clicking on the bucket/paint palette
To
add a picture:
From the clipart gallery in
PageBuilder:
Click
the Picture Button in the task bar
Double
Click on ClipArt
Double
Click on a category
Click
on a name to preview it
When
you find one you want to use, click OK
From a file:
Click
the Picture Button in the task bar
Click
Upload
Click
Browse
Point to where the picture is saved
Click Open
Click Upload
When it is finished uploading, click OK
The
picture is now saved under User Files
To
add multiple pictures or other files (html documents, etc):
Click File in the top menu bar and
select Upload Files and Images
You can choose up to 5 files to upload
Click Browse
Point to where the file is saved
Click Open
Continue with other files
When ready, click Upload
To
add a link:
Highlight the text or object to be
linked
Click the Link Button in the task bar
To
another website:
Leave the 1st box as Web URL
Type in the URL in the 2nd box (or copy/paste)
Click OK
To another page you’ve created:
Change the 1st box to My Page
Click Choose
Click the page you want
Click OK
Click OK
To an email address:
Change the 1st box to E-Mail
Type in the e-mail address in the 2nd box
Click OK
To a file:
Change the 1st box to My File
Click Choose
Click the file you want
Click OK
Click OK
To
save a page:
Click the Save button in the task bar
Name the page (leave your original
page as index)
Click Save (you can click OK to view
your page or cancel to go back to PageBuilder)
***After
you create your first page, click Edit and select Preferences
Put
a checkmark in the box that says “create new pages using layers”
To
add a new page:
Click the New button in the task bar
You should see a blank page
Follow above steps to format the page
To
open a page:
Click the Open button in the task bar
Click on the page you want to open in
the Files Available list
Click Open
To
add a counter:
Click the Add-ons button in the task
bar
Click Counter
Choose the style, color, etc.
Click OK
To
add other effects to your page:
Click the Add-ons button in the task
bar
BASICS: add lines, buttons, bullets,
etc.
PAGE EFFECTS: add image tails, text tails, bouncing
pictures, etc.
INSTANT INFO: add date/time stamp, weather, etc.
INTERACTIVE: add guestbook, etc.
HEADLINES: add informational links from recent news
YAHOOLIGANS: add links from the Yahoo Kid’s website
FORMS & SCRIPTS: add radio buttons, check boxes, etc.
To
be able to upload documents, they must be saved in html format. Here are steps to save a document in
Microsoft Word as an html file. Other
word processing applications will be different, but these steps should give you
an idea of what to look for.
Open the document
Click File and select Save As
Change the file type to Web Page
Click Save
You should now be able to upload this
file in PageBuilder
